Goodison wins first World title

Olympic sailing champion Paul Goodison has won his first World Championship title after clinching gold at the Laser Worlds in Canada.

Compatriot Nick Thompson made it a double celebration for Team GBR by winning bronze, his! first ever senior World Championship medal.

"It's fantastic and such a relief," said Goodison, who finished 6.5 points ahead of New Zealander Michael Bullot.

"There was a bit of pressure to do the business," the 31-year-old added."

Goodison, from Rotherham, is now unbeaten in international sailing since taking gold in Beijing a year ago.

He claime! d the Eu ropean title earlier this month and took gold at three events at the ISAF Sailing World Cup.

Thompson finished a further four points adrift of Bullard in claiming third place.
