Ajax star 'overjoyed'

Ajax Cape Town Captain Brett Evans says he is absolutely overjoyed with the teams Telkom Knockout win.
The team arrived home in Cape Town on Thursday and held a victory parade.

Earlier the team presented the trophy to Deputy Mayor Grant Haskin at the Greenpoint Stadium Visitors' Centre.

Their 2-1 victory over Soweto giants Orlando Pirates was even sweeter because it was the first time in eight years that the team had brought a major cup back to the Mother City.

Evans was not part of the team in their last two cup parades because he was on international duty, but he says he is happy to have finally got his chance.

"I've got my first opportunity to drive around and see the supporters and be part of the vibe and just to celebrate so I am very happy."

The team will now shift their focus to this weekend's game against Mamelodi Sundowns.

The match is the last before the Christmas break and Evans believes being highe! r up in the table lessens the pressure.

"Our goal ! was to f inish in the top three at Christmas and I think it always helps in the last 10 or 15 games of the season as teams tighten up with their defense, they don't want to give anything away and they are fighting relegation or they are fighting for the top three positions."

The Urban Warriors will be looking back to winning ways against Sundowns after their 1-1 draw with Platinum Stars on Wednesday.

Kick-off at Athlone Stadium is at 8pm.
